On average, reduces antibiotic treatment by 40%
Targets treatment to those cows that need it most!
Reasons for use
Mastitis treatment accounts for a large portion of antibiotic use on dairy farms. Treatment with antibiotics requires long milk withhold times, which contribute to the cost of the disease. Some mastitis bacteria have high self-cure rates or poor treatment response and antibiotic use may not be justified.
Use of rapid tools for the identification of mastitis pathogens enables treatment decisions that decrease antibiotic use and save money without compromising mastitis outcomes.
Which cows to treat
The culture system is designed to classify mastitis cases into 3 groups; Gram-positive (to be treated) and Gram-negative and No Growth cases (not to be treated). The system is intended to be used on cows with mild cases of mastitis (no fever or severe illness).
Research validated1 interpretation instructions (see link below) provide the most accurate cutoffs for diagnosis. It is highly recommended that you consult with your herd veterinarian regarding development of treatment protocols. As with any therapy program, individual response may vary. If clinical signs worsen, take action immediately and consult your veterinarian.
Quality control
The culture kit provides a sample collection vial that is intended for submission to a diagnostic laboratory. Submission of this sample allows tracking of quality control for the on-farm culture and provides additional information on the mastitis-causing bacteria, which will aid in prevention strategies.
Storage and Handling
- Product shelf-life is 1 year if stored at room temperature
- Avoid excess humidity and keep culture media in individual package until use
